Rhinoceros Beetles Eco-Area was established in October, 2003 with both showroom and natural habitat occupying a total area approximately 670 square meters. Under a careful nurturing of the habitat by specialists, the natural environment has created a paradise for rhinoceros beetles. The mating season for rhinoceros beetles is from June to August and our resourceful eco-area had drawn many beetles from other areas each year. In here, you can learn their life cycle, from larvae stage to fully-grown beetles! To make the learning more interesting, you may use the audio guide provided inside the showroom for more detailed information. So why not come and join us in exploring the wonderful world of the rhinoceros beetle?

Stage 1:Eggs
The color of the oval-shaped eggs is milky-white. Around August of each year, the female Rhino beetles would lay their eggs in decaying vegetable matters or rotten wood litters.
Stage 2:Larvae
The color of larvae is pale-whitish with body hairs. The larvae are hatched and fed on those decaying matters for nourishment.
Stage 3:Pupae
Four months after the first stage, rhino beetles will transform from eggs, larvae to pupae. This stage lasts about one to two weeks and when fully grown, larvae would form a cell in the soil and lines it with feces, producing a waterproof layer. Now, larvae had grown into pupae inside the cell. When the pupae changes color from light to dark, it is ready for the next stage!
Stage 4:Eclosion
At this stage, an adult beetle is ready to hatch out and digs its way to surface. The eclosion is around May and June of each year.
Stage 5:Adulthood
From May to July, rhinoceros beetles are easily seen climbing on trees or scratching trunks for tree saps. Also, because of their fascinating life cycles, rhino beetles had become one of the popular pets for children in Asia!
